We are proud to announce we are in our sixth year as a stationary
department at Gordo High School. The Health Science program assists in meeting the needs of all students in Alabama
high schools. It encompasses a variety or courses which are relevant to the twenty-first century. Our program
places emphasis on the importance of project, service, and work-based learning experiences. Participation in the Health
Occupation Students of America (HOSA) student organization is encouraged to help develop leadership skills. Students
are prepared to meet the increasing and changing demands of careers in the health science field.
The puposes of the Health Science programs are:
-
To introduce students to the healthcare system
-
To assist students in making realistic career decisions
-
To develop students' leadership skills
-
To prepare students for acceptance in postsecondary healthcare education programs
and/or employment in healthcare jobs

We are also excited about the renovation of our Health Science laboratory.
Once this is completed, students will receive additional hands-on experience in a mock clinical setting. This will allow
the students to become familiar with the health care setting, how to operated frequently used equipment, how to complete different
procedures, and many other valuable lessons related to careers in the field of Health Science Technology.
